Zilla Parishad High School

Our school is located in Talegaon village, situated right near the Gram Panchayat office in the Murbad taluka area of Thane. It is a government-run place, so things are kept very simple and functional around here. We have several long buildings with old tiled roofs that sit around a large, dusty playground. The location in Thane East means we get a lot of kids coming from the local farming families and the nearby residential clusters. Every single morning starts with the national anthem being sung out in the yard before everyone heads into their respective rooms for the day. The desks are heavy and made of dark wood, and the blackboards are the old-fashioned kind that require a lot of chalk and regular cleaning. We have a small library room with some older books and magazines that the students are allowed to borrow. The staff here consists mostly of local people who have lived in the Murbad area for many years. We don't have a lot of extra money for decorations or fancy landscaping, so the walls are just painted a plain cream color. In the afternoons, the heat can get quite intense out in the yard, but the thick walls of the old buildings manage to keep the inside temperature okay for the kids. We focus almost entirely on the basic subjects and making sure the students are prepared for their state board exams. It’s a no-nonsense environment where we just try to provide a steady, reliable place for learning.
