Our school is over in Dombivli East on Plot No. X 6. It’s a very busy part of Thane, and you can really feel that energy every morning when the kids start arriving. The streets around the school are narrow and get quite clogged with rickshaws and parents on scooters. We have a gate that we open up early so the students can get inside and off the road. The building is a few stories high, and the stairs get a lot of use throughout the day. We have the usual classrooms where the walls are covered in student drawings and old maps. The fans hum constantly to keep the air moving, especially when it gets humid like it often does here. We have a small playground area, but it’s always full of noise and movement during recess. Our teachers are local people who have been walking these halls for years. Sometimes the bell is a little loud, but it’s the only way to keep everyone on schedule. We deal with the typical stuff like leaking pens and lost shoes. It’s a standard neighborhood school where everyone knows everyone else’s business. At the end of the day, when the last student leaves, the building feels very empty and quiet. We lock up the office, check the lights, and get ready to do it all again the next morning. It’s just our daily life in Thane.
