The smell of ground chili and fresh turmeric is the first thing you notice when you get near Gotheghar Village. We are located right on the Mumbra Panvel Road, not far from the HP petrol pump at Kalyan Phata. It’s a very busy stretch of road, so there’s always a lot of noise from the heavy trucks passing by. Inside the building, the grinding machines are almost always running. We spend our days sorting through raw spices and making sure the motors are working properly. It’s a dusty job, and we all wear masks and caps to keep things clean. The brothers started this because they knew a lot about traditional spices, and now we all work here together. It’s a local operation, and we don't have any big marketing teams or anything like that. We just focus on the bags of masala that go out the door to local shops. The floor is usually stained with the bright colors of the spices, which is just part of the process. We load the finished packets into small vans that take them to the markets nearby. Sometimes the heat in the grinding room gets pretty intense during the summer, so we take turns going outside for some fresh air. It’s a lot of hard work, but there’s something satisfying about seeing the raw ingredients turn into the powders everyone uses in their kitchens for cooking. We just keep our heads down and get the work finished.
