Pooja Masala

Our small business, Pooja Masala, is based at Plot No. C2/7 in the Han Ratan Society. We’re in Bangur Nagar, which is a busy part of Goregaon West, though our specific street is a bit quieter. We handle various masalas here, mostly doing the grinding and the packaging ourselves. Since we are inside a residential society, we have to be mindful of the noise, so we don't run the heavy machines too late in the evening. The space is filled with the strong scents of coriander and cumin. It started as a small side project and eventually turned into a full-time job for us. We have a few people who help with the packing and sealing of the bags. It’s a hands-on process and we don’t use much automation. We like being able to see exactly what goes into every batch. Goregaon is a fast-paced place, but we try to keep things simple here. We don’t have a corporate structure or a big management team. It’s just a family-run operation. Sometimes the rainy season makes deliveries a bit of a headache with the local traffic, but we manage. We don’t do any big promotions or anything like that. Most of our work comes from long-standing relationships with local shops. We just focus on the quality of the grinding and making sure our regulars are happy. It’s a modest setup, but it’s ours and we’re proud of the work we put in.
