Pariwar Masala

Our workshop is Gala No. 68 in Momin Nagar, which is right in Jogeshwari West. If you are getting off at the Jogeshwari West Railway Station, we are just a short walk away. Being so close to the station means there is a constant flow of people and noise, but that is just part of living in Mumbai. We make masala here, and because it is a small gala, the smell of the spices is very strong. Sometimes it makes the neighbors sneeze, but most people are used to it by now. We don't have a big factory, just a few machines squeezed into this space. We work hard to get the proportions right, and it is a messy job with red chili powder and turmeric getting on everything. We are just a small family group running this, so there is no boss in a suit here. We are usually all on the floor helping with the packing or cleaning the seeds. The floor is a bit uneven and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but we spend our time on the masala instead. We sell mostly to the local shops and people in the nearby colonies. It is a simple life, and we like being part of the busy Momin Nagar community. We just do our work and go home when the sun sets. There isn't much glory in it, but it's honest work and it keeps our family together through the years.
