Kovilkannapur School

You can find us at A1 Anku Apartment. This is in the Dhobi Ail Charai area of Thane West. It’s funny because some people say it’s Mumbai, but the pincode 400601 is definitely Thane. Kovilkannapur School is based right here in this apartment building. It’s not your typical school with a huge field. It’s more of a tucked-away spot in a busy neighborhood. Charai is an old part of town with narrow streets and lots of shops. You can hear the sounds of the local market nearby. Anku Apartment is a bit of an older building. We have our rooms set up for the classes. It gets a bit dark in the hallways when the lights are off. We have windows that look out onto the street. You can see the people going about their business at the dhobi ghats or the small stalls. It is a very lived-in area. The school has a very local feel to it. Most of the kids come from the nearby buildings. We don't have much room for extras, just the basics for teaching. Sometimes the bells from the local temple ring and we hear them clearly inside. It’s just how life is in this part of Thane. We open the doors early and stay until the last student leaves in the afternoon. It is not fancy but it works for everyone here.
