Durva Food Corner

Being right in Thane East near the railway station means there is never a quiet moment. Durva Food Corner is tucked into Shop No 4 at Jyotsna Apartment, which isn't the biggest space but it gets the job done. Every morning you can hear the trains pulling in and the crowd of people rushing toward the Kopri Bus Stop. Most of our customers are just people trying to get to work on time. They grab something fast and head out. We try to keep things moving because nobody has twenty minutes to wait around for food in the morning. Sometimes the delivery guys for the supplies arrive right when the bus stop is most crowded, and it’s a bit of a mess getting crates inside. We just laugh about it because that’s just life in Thane. The apartment building is older, so it has that lived-in feel which I think people don't mind. We don't have fancy menus or anything like that. We just write what we have and that’s it. My brother helps with the accounts and I handle the cooking and the counter. It gets hot and cramped in the afternoons, but when the evening rush starts, you don't really think about it. It’s just constant movement until we shut the shutters at night. If you’re standing across from the station, you can see us easily enough. It’s a honest way to make a living and we are used to the noise.
