Space Scape Architects, Chennai

Our place is at Plot No.20 in Venkatesara Nagar. We are tucked away behind the Kamarajapuram Church in Anakaputhur. It’s a relatively quiet part of Chennai, which is nice when you’re trying to focus on drawings and plans. We call ourselves Space Scape Architects, but mostly we are just a few people who enjoy designing buildings for others. We don't have a giant team of experts. It’s a small operation where everyone does a bit of everything during the day. One day we might be drawing up a house plan, and the next day we’re out in the sun checking on a foundation. The weather here in Chennai can be tough, but we’re used to the heat. We don't put on any airs or act like we’re some big international firm. We just work with the local people here in Chennai to make their ideas into actual buildings. Sometimes the meetings happen over a cup of coffee at the corner shop rather than in an office. We have a lot of sketches and rough drafts piling up on our shelves. People find us because they live nearby or they saw a house we worked on down the road. It’s a very grounded way of working. We just want to make sure the walls are straight and the rooms have enough light. That’s about it for us. We just keep moving forward with each project.
