People in Wadhwancity know our building well since it has been sitting here for quite a long time. It isn't a fancy place with new glass walls or anything like that. Most days start early with the sound of students shuffling their feet and the smell of tea from the corner stall nearby. We have rooms that stay a bit cool in the summer heat because the walls are thick, which helps the kids stay awake during the long afternoon lessons. Teachers here mostly grew up in this part of Surendranagar, so they know the families and which kids are likely to skip homework to help out at home. Sometimes the fans make a clicking noise that we just got used to over the years. We spend a lot of time just keeping things running, like fixing the old wooden desks or making sure the water cooler is actually cold. It’s a busy place, especially when the bell rings and everyone rushes out to the street. You might see the staff sitting out front after hours, just catching their breath before heading home. There is always some dust from the road, but that is just how it is around here. We don’t have much in the way of big slogans or posters on every wall. It’s mostly just a place where students come to get through their exams and learn enough to find a decent job later. It feels like a second home to many of us.
