Shree M U Sheth Girls High School

It’s early morning here in Wadhwan City and the gates are wide open at Shree M U Sheth Girls High School. Most days start the same way. The girls arrive on their cycles or walk through the main entrance. You can hear the chatter from down the street before they even get to the door. We’ve been here in Surendra Nagar for quite a while now. The building is older, it has that specific smell of chalk and old paper that stays in the hallways even when everyone leaves for the day. There's a lot of noise during the breaks. Usually, the staff is busy sorting out books or making sure the benches are straight in the classrooms. It’s not fancy. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint in some spots, but it serves the purpose. We spend our time checking attendance and making sure the girls are where they need to be. Sometimes the fans make a bit of a clicking sound when it’s hot outside. That’s just how it is. We have a small yard where they stand for the morning assembly. It gets dusty when the wind blows through this part of Gujarat, so we’re always sweeping the front steps. It’s a busy place, especially when exams are coming up and everyone is a bit more quiet and focused. We just keep things moving one day at a time here. You can see the sunset over the buildings nearby as we lock up the main gates every evening after the last staff member leaves.
