Our office is located in the Meet Darshan apartment building, right on New Rander Road. It’s across from Patel Wadi, which makes it easy to find if you know the area. Being in a residential building like A-101 means we have to keep things a bit more quiet than the actual steel mill. We handle a lot of the administrative side for Essar Steel from here. It’s a busy street outside, lots of rickshaws and people going about their business in Surat-009. Inside, we have our files stacked up and the computers running all day. Sometimes the elevator in the building acts up, so we take the stairs. It’s just a regular office with people typing and talking on the phone. We don't have any big signs or neon lights, just a small plate on the door. Most people who come by are vendors or staff members coming from the site. We drink a lot of chai during the day to stay focused. The windows look out over the road, so we see all the traffic. It gets a bit dusty with all the construction nearby, so we have to wipe the desks down every morning. We’ve been here for a bit now and the neighbors are used to us. It’s a practical spot for doing the paperwork side of the steel business without all the noise. We just try to get through the day's tasks as best as we can.
