Somani Murli

Somani Murli is based in the India Textile Market in Surat. Our unit is J/506, right on the Ring Road. If you know Surat, you know how incredibly busy the textile market can be. It’s constant movement—trucks unloading, people carrying rolls of cloth, and a lot of shouting. Our office is tucked away on the fifth floor. It’s a bit of a climb if the lift is acting up, which happens more often than we’d like. Inside the office, it’s a bit of a squeeze. We have samples and documents everywhere. Ring Road is the heart of the trade here, so it’s a very loud place to spend the day. You never really get a quiet moment until late in the evening when the market starts to close down. We’ve been part of this market for a long time. The office itself is functional and not much else. We have a small area where we sit and do the work, surrounded by the smell of new fabric and tea. It’s a very honest way to make a living. We don't have time for fancy presentations or polished speeches. Most of the time we are just checking figures or talking to suppliers on the phone. The air is always a bit dusty from all the textiles moving around, but you get used to it. It’s just the way things are in the 395002 area.
