About Fantasy Art & Framing – Art & Craft in Surat
If you walk into Fantasy Art & Framing at 49 Shankarseth Road, near the J N Marg and Bhatar Road junction, the first thing you’ll notice is probably the smell of cut wood and maybe a bit of glass cleaner. We spend most of our time surrounded by long strips of molding and stacks of cardboard. It’s a messy job, honestly. There is always sawdust on the floor no matter how many times we sweep it up during the day. We spend hours measuring things out and making sure the corners of the frames line up just right. It’s not always easy because sometimes the wood has a mind of its own and warps a bit. We’ve got all sorts of frames leaning against the walls, some old and some new. People bring in everything from their kid's drawings to old family photos that are starting to fall apart. We handle them carefully, but our hands are usually a bit rough from the work. The workbench is cluttered with hammers, nails, and rolls of tape that seem to disappear whenever you need them. It gets a bit loud when the saw is running, so we sometimes miss the doorbell. We don’t try to act like high-end gallery owners. We are just people who like working with our hands and making sure a picture looks decent before it goes on someone’s wall. It’s a slow process and we don’t like to rush it because mistakes with glass are expensive and annoying to fix.
