We run Sairaj Art Academy out of a small space at C 2 Bharthana in Room 12. It is not a huge school with hundreds of students or anything like that. It is more of a quiet place where people come to learn how to draw and paint. We have pencils and charcoal all over the tables and the floor usually has a few eraser shavings on it. I started this because I wanted a place for the neighborhood kids to spend their afternoons doing something creative. Bharthana is a nice area and it is relatively quiet compared to the city center. Room 12 is just big enough for a few desks and some easels. I spend a lot of my time showing people how to hold a brush or mix colors on a palette. We don't have a big curriculum or fancy certificates. It is just about the art. Sometimes the students bring in their own ideas and we just work on them together. The light in the room is pretty good in the morning which helps when we are doing detail work. I drink a lot of coffee while I watch the students work. It is rewarding to see someone finally get a portrait right after trying for weeks. We are just a local spot for people who like to be messy with paint and markers. It feels more like a hobby shop than a real academy sometimes.
