Our shop is located at 106 in Dinesh Chamber, right across from the SBI branch in Kapodra. It is a busy street and there is always someone coming or going from the bank. We work with cane here. It is a nice change from all the plastic and metal you see everywhere else. The smell in the shop is earthy and fresh, mostly because of the raw material stacked up in the back. We do a lot of weaving and shaping by hand. My fingers have plenty of callouses from years of pulling and tucking the cane into place. It’s quiet work, which I appreciate. We aren’t a large company with a lot of departments. It is just a few of us who know the trade. We started this because we liked the idea of making things that people actually use in their homes. The stairs up to our place are a little steep, so we always tell people to watch their step. We have some basic tools, but most of the work is just down to patience and practice. People often stop in after finishing their business at the bank. They look at what we are making and we chat for a bit. It’s a friendly way to do business. We don’t have any fancy mission statements. We just want to make decent stuff that lasts for a long time. Kapodra has been a good home for us and we like the community here.
