If you head down Mughal Road in the Lal Bazar area of Srinagar, you’ll find G D Goenka Public School. It’s a well-known spot in this part of the city. We’ve got the mountains as a backdrop, which is nice, but mostly we focus on what’s happening inside the gate. The school is a busy place with kids running around and teachers trying to keep things organized. Lal Bazar is a central location, so there’s always people coming and going. We don’t really go for all those fancy slogans. We just provide a place for students to come and learn. It’s a practical school. The halls are often noisy between periods, and the playground sees a lot of use. We deal with the Srinagar weather just like everyone else. Sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s bright, but the school routine stays the same. We are just a group of people working here to make sure the kids have what they need for their lessons. We don't pretend to be perfect. There’s always a bit of chaos when school lets out, but that’s normal. People in the neighborhood know the school well. It’s just a part of the daily landscape on Mughal Road. We focus on the basics and try to stay helpful to the families who send their children to us. We’ve been here a while and plan to stay here, doing what we do.
