Royal Public High School

Royal Public High School is situated right near Ganta Ghar in Srinagar. Being in such a central spot means it is always busy outside our doors. The 190001 zip code is the heart of the city, and we have been a part of it for years. The school itself is an old-style building. It has high ceilings and many stairs. It isn't a modern glass structure, but it has character. You can hear the sounds of the market and the clock tower nearby throughout the day. We have students from all over this part of town. The morning assembly happens in a small courtyard where everyone huddles together. Our staff members are mostly from the local area, so they understand the families here. We don't have a big fancy office. The principal's room is usually full of books and stacks of papers. We teach the regular subjects and try to prepare the older students for their exams. It gets quite cold in the winter months, so we all wrap up in heavy coats inside. There isn't any glossy brochure for the school. People just know we are here by Ganta Ghar. It’s a bit noisy and cramped sometimes, but that’s just life in the middle of Srinagar. We focus on getting the work done and making sure the kids learn what they need to. It is just a regular school doing its job every single day.
