Tomar General Store

Tomar General Store sits in the middle of Ambedkar Colony in Fatehpur Beri. It is a simple brick building that serves as a shop for everyone living nearby. We carry the basic things like oil, flour, and spices that people need for their kitchens every day. There is a small bench outside where some people sit for a minute after buying their things. The road outside can get a bit dusty when the wind picks up, so we are always wiping down the glass jars on the counter. We keep the pulses in large plastic containers with lids that are easy to reach. It is not a very big shop, so we have to use the height of the walls to stack the extra boxes of supplies. Most of the time it is just quiet, with the occasional person coming in for a phone recharge or a packet of biscuits. We know most of the kids who come in after school looking for small treats or pens. The lights inside are just basic tubes, enough to see what is written on the labels. We have been in this spot for a while now, and the routine stays the same from Monday to Sunday. It is just a local store for local people. We don't have fancy displays, just the items sitting where they have always been. It works for us and for the people who live in the colony.
