The Carpet Home

Living and working in Lajpat Nagar-Iv means you get used to the noise and the crowds pretty quickly. Our place at 23/145 in Vikram Vihar is where we keep everything. If you walk in, you’ll mostly see stacks of rugs and rolls of carpet piled up high. It’s a lot of heavy lifting, honestly. My back usually aches by Friday afternoon. We aren't one of those shiny showrooms you see in the big malls. It’s more of a practical space where we move things around to show people the patterns. The lighting isn't the best, so we often end up dragging things toward the door to see the real colors in the sunlight. Vikram Vihar can be a bit of a maze if you aren’t from around here, but we like the neighborhood. There’s a small shop nearby that makes decent samosas, which helps on the long days. We spend a lot of time just sweeping up lint and wool fibers because they get everywhere. It’s just us here, making sure the orders are packed right and the stock is counted. Sometimes we find a carpet we forgot we had at the bottom of a pile. It’s a bit messy, but it’s our way of doing things. We don't spend much on decorations because the carpets cover most of the floor and walls anyway. It stays cool inside even when the Delhi heat is hitting hard outside.
