Sunder Pan Shop

We've been here at Green Park Main Market for a while now. If you look for G 48, that’s where you’ll find our little spot. It’s not a big place, just enough space for the jars and the counter where we fix the pans. Every morning starts with cleaning the leaves and getting the lime and catechu ready. The market gets quite busy in the evenings. People walk by after eating at the nearby places and stop for a quick bit of refreshment. Some want the sweet ones, others like something stronger. We just keep things moving. The fan hums in the corner and we watch the crowd go by. Sometimes it rains and we have to pull the shutter halfway, but mostly we are open till late. It’s a simple life here. My hands stay stained with the red paste most of the day. The shelves have some candies and cigarettes too, because people ask for them. We don't have fancy chairs or anything like that. Just the counter. Most folks know us by name now. It gets hot in the summer, so we keep the water cold. That’s pretty much how it goes every day at Sunder Pan Shop. We don’t change much around here, just keep the leaves fresh and the jars full. It’s steady work. Sometimes we chat with the delivery boys or the uncles who have lived in Green Park forever. It’s just us.
