We’re tucked away on the second floor of Alway House on Gurukul Road. It’s near Navneet House, which is the big landmark most people use to find us. Sri Balaji Spices and Nuts is a small operation. The stairs are a bit steep, but it keeps us fit. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the smell of spices. It’s quite strong but we don’t mind it anymore. We spend our days sorting through different types of nuts and spices, making sure everything is clean and ready. It’s a lot of manual work. We don’t have big machines doing everything for us. There are bags stacked up to the ceiling in the back room. We’ve got a small table where we sit and have our lunch together. Gurukul Road is usually packed with traffic, so we hear the honking all day long. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for years. Most of our neighbors are other small businesses just like us. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just know us and come by. It’s a simple life. We work hard, we pack the goods, and we send them out. Sometimes we get a bit behind when a big order comes in. But we always manage to get it done eventually. That’s just how it is here. We try to stay honest and just do our bit every single day.
