Satish General Store

Our store is at Plot No801 in Chirag Delhi, and it’s been a part of this neighborhood for a long while now. Being so close to the Masjid means we have people passing by at all hours of the day. The shop itself is packed with all sorts of things, from soap to snacks, and it can feel a bit cramped when more than two people are inside at once. We try to keep the shelves stocked, but sometimes we run out of the popular stuff before the next delivery truck comes. I spend a lot of time behind the counter, just nodding to the regulars and helping the kids find their favorite treats. The floor is made of old stone, and I have to sweep it out every morning to get rid of the street dust that blows in. We don’t have any fancy displays or bright lights. It’s just a local general store where people come because it’s convenient for them. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside when it’s quiet and watch the traffic go by. There’s a lot of chatter about local news and who is doing what in the colony. We just try to keep the essentials ready. It’s a simple life, opening early and closing late once the last prayers at the Masjid are done. It’s not a big business, but it keeps us busy and connected to everyone living around here.
