About Mom Kitchen – Food & Beverages in South Delhi
Mom Kitchen is over in Safdarjung Enclave at number 197. It’s more of a home-style setup than a big restaurant or anything like that. We spend most of our time in the back near the stoves, cooking up the daily specials. The menu doesn't change a whole lot because people usually come back for the same things they liked last time. It’s mostly locals from the enclave or students who are living away from their families and want something that tastes like it was made in a real house. We go through a lot of onions and tomatoes every morning, just chopping away while the tea brews. It’s not very quiet here because the pressure cookers are always whistling and we’re usually talking over the sound of the exhaust fan. The space is a bit tight, especially when the delivery guys are waiting for orders, but we manage to keep things moving. We don't have fancy uniforms or a big front desk. Usually, someone just pokes their head in to see what’s cooking. It feels good when someone tells us the food reminds them of home. That’s why we started this in the first place, just to cook simple stuff for the neighborhood. It’s hard work on your feet all day, but seeing empty plates makes it feel alright at the end of the night.
