Menai Food Corner

You can find Menai Food Corner at Kalkaji A-105, right on the corner like the name says. It’s a small operation, mostly just a big stove, a few deep fryers, and a counter where we hand out the food. The heat from the burners makes the whole place feel warm, which is tough in the summer but quite nice when it’s raining outside. We have a few plastic stools on the pavement for people who want to sit, but most customers just stand around or lean against their scooters while they eat. The menu is written on a piece of cardboard hung near the entrance, and we sometimes have to cross things out when we run out of ingredients for the day. We get a lot of people from the nearby offices during lunch hour, and it gets pretty frantic with everyone shouting their orders at once. We try to keep things moving, flipping the food and bagging it up as fast as our hands can go. There is always a bit of grease on the floor near the cooking station, no matter how much we scrub it down at night. The trash bin outside fills up quickly, so we are always changing the bags. It’s a loud, busy little corner, and we are usually too tired to talk much by the time we shut down. It’s just local food for people who are in a hurry and want something hot.
