Karims Food

If you head down to Zakir Nagar, specifically at number 85, you’ll find Karims Food. This part of New Friends Colony is always buzzing with people. We’re right in the thick of it. The shop at 85 is usually full of steam and the sound of knives on boards. We don’t have much room for fancy furniture. It’s mostly about the stoves and the big pots. The walls have turned a bit dark over the years from all the cooking. We spend our mornings prep work, chopping things up and getting the fires ready. It gets loud and hot very quickly. We don't really use menus with pictures; people just know what they want. The floor is stone and we have to wash it down several times a day to keep it from getting greasy. We’re often shouting over the noise of the exhaust fans. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find a quiet corner. We have a few tables, but they’re mostly always occupied. We don’t do much in the way of advertising. Being at this address for so long, people just know where to find us. We keep the cash box under the main counter. By the end of the shift, our clothes smell like woodsmoke and spices. It’s a tiring job, but it’s what we do every day here in Zakir Nagar. We just keep the kitchen going as long as there are people at the door.
