Chaudhary General Store

Chaudhary General Store is right on the Aya Nagar Main Road so we see pretty much everyone who lives in this area at some point. It is a standard general store where we keep all the daily essentials like milk and bread and snacks. I open the shutters early in the morning because that is when people are headed to work or the kids are going to school. The shelves are packed with everything from soap to bags of rice and sometimes it is hard to find a spot for new stock. It is a bit of a tight squeeze inside when we have more than three or four customers at once. I spend a lot of time counting change and writing down what we need to order for the next day. The main road is always loud with horns and buses passing by but we are used to the noise. In the evenings it gets really busy when people are coming home and need to pick up stuff for dinner. We have a small television in the corner to keep us company during the slow hours in the afternoon. My son helps out after his college classes and we usually stay open until quite late. It is a simple life running a kirana store but it keeps us connected to the whole community here in Aya Nagar. We know which brand of tea everyone likes and who usually forgets to bring their own bag.
