Shree Jaishankar English High School

This school is in the Padile Complex on Ambajogai Road in Latur. If you know this part of town, you know how busy that road gets with all the trucks and cars passing through at all hours. We have our building tucked into the complex which makes it a bit quieter than being right on the pavement. Every morning, the staff arrives and we start getting the rooms ready for the day. It is a high school, so the students are a bit older and taller than the primary kids. They mostly come from the surrounding parts of Latur. The hallways are a bit narrow and we have to tell the boys to stop running and shouting sometimes. It is an English medium school so we try to use the language as much as we can during the lessons. The windows look out toward the main road and the nearby shops. It gets quite dusty in the summer months and we have to wipe the benches every single morning before the first class starts. We don't have a giant playground, but there is enough space in the complex for the kids to stand together during the morning assembly. We use simple books and the teachers write a lot on the blackboards. Latur has its own slow pace, and we just follow that. The families who send their children here are mostly local people we see every day. There is a small tea shop nearby where the teachers sometimes go during their break.
