If you head over to Mahud in Solapur, you’ll find us at Nitin Pandurang Narale’s house, number S-33. We’ve lived in this area for a long time, and Narale Farmers Producer Company Limited is really just a group of us from around here. Solapur is known for being dry, so we spend a lot of our time worrying about the water and how the crops are going to pull through. It’s a community thing, really. We don't have a big fancy office with glass doors; it’s just a room where we keep our files and meet up to talk. Usually, someone is making tea while we discuss what needs to be bought for the next season. We aren't polished people and we don't try to sound like we are. We're just farmers who decided that working together was better than working alone. You’ll see us around the village, probably covered in a bit of dirt from the fields. The address is just a regular home where we do our business. It’s not a corporate setup at all. We just want to make sure the work gets done and that everyone gets a fair shake. There’s a lot of talking and a lot of waiting for the rain. It’s just the way life goes in Mahud. We keep things simple because that’s what works for us and our families. Every year is a bit of a gamble with the rain but we just keep at it anyway.
