Our mill is located in Sangole. We go by the name Shetkari Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd. and we are a cooperative. That means we are basically a group of people working together in the spinning industry. Sangole is our home and most of the people who work here are from around this area. The soot girni, or spinning mill, is a big part of our lives. We take the raw material and turn it into yarn. It’s a lot of work and the machines are running for most of the day. The sound of the spindles is something you just learn to live with. We aren't some big corporate office in a city; we are right here where the work happens. Sometimes things break down and we have to spend the whole day fixing them, but that's just how it goes with a mill. We take pride in the fact that we are a cooperative. It’s about the community here in Sangole. We have our meetings and we talk about how things are going. It’s not always smooth sailing, and prices for everything keep changing, but we manage to keep the wheels turning. Most of us have been here for years and we know each other's families. It's a steady way of life and we wouldn't have it any other way. We just keep doing what we've been doing for years and hope for the best for everyone.
