Krushirukmini Woman Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are out here at Gate Number 258 in Mangalwedha. It’s mostly us women running the show at Krushirukmini Woman Farmer Producer Company Limited. We have been working these fields for years, usually doing the hard labor while someone else handled the business side. We decided to change that and do it ourselves. It is not always easy balancing the farm work with everything else at home. You can usually find us near the fields talking about the soil quality or which seeds are actually working this time around. We don't have a polished office or anything like that; we mostly meet where the work is happening. Mangalwedha is a tough place to farm sometimes because of the water situation. We spend a lot of time worrying about the wells. We aren't doing this to get rich quick or anything. We just want to make sure our families are okay and that the work we put into the ground is worth it. Some people were surprised to see a group of women doing this, but we know the land as well as anyone. We help each other out when one of us falls behind. It’s a lot of sweat and long hours under the sun. We just take it day by day and try to learn as we go along. It is honest work and that’s what matters to us. We might not have all the answers, but we are definitely putting in the effort.
