Darbi Farmer Producer Company Limited

This group got started right here in Darbi, working out of Rajender’s place. He’s the son of Hari Chand, and most people around here know the family well. We are a bunch of farmers from the Sirsa area who decided it was time to work together instead of just looking out for ourselves individually. It’s a lot of back and forth, trying to get the seeds and the tools sorted for everyone. Our office is basically just a room in the house where we keep the paperwork and meet up after the day's work is done. Sirsa is a big farming district, so there’s always something that needs doing, whether it’s checking the water or seeing about the harvest. We don’t have a big staff or anything like that. It’s just us, the locals, putting our heads together. Some days are tougher than others, especially when the machinery breaks down or the heat gets to be too much in the middle of the afternoon. We focus on the practical side of things, like how to get the crops to the market without losing too much money. It’s a plain way of living, but it’s what we know. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't. We just want to make sure the farmers in Darbi have a bit more say in how their stuff is sold. It’s a slow process but we are sticking with it and hoping for better seasons ahead.
