Sirsa Jamidara Farmer Producer Companylimited is based out of Gudia Khera. Specifically, we work out of Krishan’s place, who is Durga Ram’s son. It is a quiet spot, mostly just the sound of the wind and the tractors moving in the distance. We are jamidars, which just means we are people tied to the land. Most of our families have been farming this area for generations and we know the cycles of the moon and the way the air feels before a big storm hits. This company was formed because we were tired of getting the short end of the stick at the market. We figured if we worked together, maybe we could buy things cheaper and sell them for a fair price. It is hard work and there is a lot of waiting around. Waiting for the rain, waiting for the seeds to sprout, and waiting for the market prices to go up. We sit around at the office in Gudia Khera and drink a lot of tea while we plan things out. It is not some big corporate setup with meetings. It is just a few chairs and some old registers. We are plain-speaking people and we do not use big words or make grand plans. We don't have much to show besides our crops. We just take it day by day. If the harvest is good, we are happy. That is the life of a farmer here.
