Bhardwaj Food Corner

Up here in Shimla, at Savitri Niwas in Khalini, things move a bit differently. Our spot, Bhardwaj Food Corner, is tucked away in a place where most people know each other. It gets quite cold in the winters, so we spend a lot of time making sure the place stays warm enough for people to sit comfortably. Khalini is a busy little area, and being near the residential blocks means we see the same faces every day. We aren't a big fancy place with waiters in uniforms. It’s mostly just us behind the counter, handling the orders and making sure the food goes out hot. The kitchen is small, so it gets pretty crowded when we have three people working at once. We’ve got a few tables inside, but many people just take their food and go home. The fog rolls in early sometimes, and you can see it right through the windows. It’s a quiet life mostly, just cooking and cleaning up afterwards. We don't do much in the way of decoration. There are some old calendars on the walls and the floor has some scratches from moving the chairs around so much. It’s just a normal corner shop where you can get a quick meal without any fuss. We open up in the morning, sweep the front, and get the stove going for the day's work.
