If you head over to Moharba in the Rewa district, you’ll find the house where we get our work done. Chachai Kisan Producer Company Limited is mostly run from Arun Kumar Dwivedi’s place. It’s not much to look at, just a regular house where we gather to talk about the farming business over some tea. We’ve all been farming for a long time, and we know how it goes—you work all year and then hope you don't get cheated when it’s time to sell your harvest. We formed this company to try and have a bit more weight when we talk to buyers. It’s a lot of paperwork, which none of us really likes, but we have to do it to keep things official with the government. Rewa is a decent place to farm if the weather holds up, but you never know what you’re going to get from one year to the next. We spend our days out in the fields and our evenings sitting around talking about what needs to be done tomorrow or next week. There’s no big corporate office or fancy signs out front. We’re just local people trying to make the most of what we’ve got. Sometimes we disagree on which crops to focus on, but we always figure it out eventually. We aren’t looking to get rich quick, just to make sure we can keep our farms going and take care of our families here in Moharba. It’s just how we live.
