Vetri Vikas Boys Higher Secondary School is located right on the side of the Salem-Namakkal Main Road, also known as NH7, in the Mallur area. Being on the highway means we see a lot of traffic passing by, but once you get inside the gates, it feels a lot more like a regular school. It’s a place for boys, so it tends to be quite loud and active most of the time. You’ll see them playing cricket in the dirt during their breaks or standing in groups talking about their favorite movies. The classrooms are simple with wooden benches that have seen many years of use. We have a big focus on the daily schedule, moving from one subject to the next as the bell rings across the campus. The teachers have their own rooms where they grade papers and drink tea between classes. We have some basic lab equipment for science experiments, and the boys seem to enjoy those days the most. It’s a straightforward environment without any bells and whistles. We deal with the heat by keeping the windows open and the fans running. Most of the students come from the surrounding villages and towns near Salem, so the parking area is always full of cycles. We don't have a lot of fancy decorations on the walls, just some charts and student work. It’s a place where work gets done and the boys grow up a bit before they head off to college.
