Sri Vivekananda Patasalai Nursery & Primary School

You can find us on Arunagiri Street in the Ammapet area of Salem. Sri Vivekananda Patasalai is mostly for the younger kids, the nursery and primary ages. Because they are small, the school feels very different from a big high school. There is a lot more running around and occasionally some crying when someone drops their lunch. Our rooms are decorated with drawings the children made, and some of the paint on the walls is starting to chip a little. We don’t mind it much. It feels lived in. The teachers have to have a lot of patience here. They spend their days tied up with crayons and basic alphabet lessons. We don’t have a big corporate board or fancy titles. It’s just us teachers and the help making sure the kids stay safe and learn their basics. The street outside can get busy with bikes, so we are always careful at the gate when school lets out. Sometimes parents come in early and we just talk about how their kids are growing up so fast. It is a very local thing. We aren't trying to be the biggest school in Salem, just a reliable one for the families living on this side of Ammapet. We just keep doing what we do every day. It's about getting the children started on the right foot before they move to bigger schools.
