Somampatty School

If you drive down Villandipalayam Main Road in Salem, you’ll find us easily enough. Somampatty School has been part of this neighborhood for a long while. It’s a straightforward setup where we just get on with the business of teaching. The building isn't anything to brag about, just plain walls and rooms that have seen a lot of use. We have the standard blackboard setup and rows of desks that have a few scratches from years of students sitting there. In the mornings, you can hear the chatter of kids as they walk in from the nearby houses. It gets a bit noisy during the breaks, which is normal for any school in this part of Salem. We don't go in for anything fancy or complicated. The staff just shows up, does their work, and helps the kids with their sums and reading. There’s a bit of a yard out back where they run around when the sun isn't too hot. We keep the place as clean as we can, though dust is always a battle on the main road. It’s a local place for local people. Most of us live just a few streets away, so it feels like a small community. We don’t have big corporate meetings, just quick chats in the hallway about what needs doing. It’s a basic, honest school day for everyone involved. We like the way things are here.
