About Jabal Handicraft – Art & Craft in Saharanpur
We have been here near Ashok Ki Aara Machine for a long time now. Most days start early before the sun gets too high because the heat in the workshop can get pretty bad. You can always hear the big saw running next door at the mill, and that smell of fresh cut wood is just part of our life here. Our space isn't fancy or anything like those big stores you see in the city. It’s mostly just us, our tools, and a lot of dust from the work we do. Someone is usually sitting on a low stool carving out a detail or sanding down a rough edge on a piece. It takes time, and my hands are always covered in something, whether it's grease or wood stain. People from around here know where we are because of the landmark, so they just drop by when they need something made. We don't have a big office or a person to answer phones all day, we’re usually too busy with the actual work. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a break for ten minutes, then it's back to it. It’s hard work, and my back hurts by the evening, but seeing a finished piece sit there on the floor makes it okay. We just keep doing what we know how to do, day after day, in this little corner of the neighborhood.
