Vijayanagar Secondary School

Out on Kumar Bag Road in Kanke, things feel a bit more open than in the center of Ranchi. Vijayanagar Secondary School is located right along this stretch. It’s a straightforward place. We have a decent-sized building where we’ve been teaching for quite a while. The morning air is usually a bit cooler here because of all the trees in Kanke. We start our day early, making sure the classrooms are ready. It’s a lot of work keeping a secondary school running smoothly. There’s always someone needing something, whether it’s a new notebook or a parent coming in to ask about grades. We don't spend much time on fancy decorations or anything. The walls have some old charts and maps on them. Most of our staff lives nearby, so we all know each other pretty well. We see the same faces every day. When the school day ends, the walk back to the main road is always busy with students. We’ve seen many groups of kids grow up and move on from here. The building itself has its quirks, like that one door that always sticks or the way the light hits the back rooms in the evening. It’s just a regular school in a regular part of town. We don’t try to make it sound better than it is. It’s just where we come to work and where the kids come to learn. That is our daily life here.
