Shemrock Gurukul

You can find Shemrock Gurukul over at 293C, Road No1 in Ashok Nagar. It’s a nice enough area here in Ranchi. The school is set up in a way that feels more like a home than a big institution. We have a small yard and several rooms that we’ve converted into learning spaces for the little ones. It’s a bit different from the giant schools downtown. We focus on the younger kids, so things are usually a bit loud and messy. There are toys and books scattered around sometimes. We don’t have a lot of corporate rules. We just try to keep a routine that the kids can follow. The staff is mostly women from the neighborhood who enjoy working with children. We spend a lot of time on basic skills and playing. It’s not fancy. The walls are painted with bright colors, but they have scuff marks from all the activity. We don't spend money on big ads. Most of our families live right here in Ashok Nagar and just walk over to drop their kids off. We have meetings with parents in the small office to talk about how the little ones are adjusting. It’s a very personal atmosphere. Sometimes we have to deal with a clogged drain or a broken toy, but that’s just life in a school. We just keep things moving and try to make sure every kid is looked after properly. It keeps us busy and the day goes by fast.
