Holy Cross School

Our school, Holy Cross, is tucked away in the Burdwan Compound area of Lalpur. Ranchi has changed a lot over the years, but this neighborhood still feels familiar. The school building is an older one, with thick walls and high ceilings that keep things a bit cooler during the heat. We have been here for a long time, and many people in Lalpur went to school here themselves. Now they send their own children to us. The mornings are always a bit chaotic with parents dropping off their kids at the gate. We have a courtyard where the assembly happens. It’s a bit tight when everyone is standing there, but we make it work. The classrooms have big windows, though the view is just other buildings and trees. Our teachers have been with us for years. They are strict when they need to be but they care about the kids. During the lunch break, the sound of children laughing and playing fills the whole compound. We have a small staff room where we sit and have tea while talking about the day's work. The school isn't trying to be anything modern or high-tech. It’s just a solid, old-fashioned place where kids learn their ABCs and numbers. We have exams, sports days, and the occasional school play, just like any other school in the city. It’s a busy, noisy, and very normal place to be every day. We hope the kids remember their time here fondly once they leave us.
