If you are driving past Army Gate No. 2 in Booti Ranchi, you will see us right there in Dipatoli. D A V Birjanand Public School has been standing here for a good long time. It is a big building with lots of windows and a fairly large gate that stays shut during class hours. The location is convenient because it is right on the main road, though the traffic can be a bit much in the mornings. Inside, the hallways are wide and you can always hear a teacher talking or a bell ringing. We have students coming in from all over Ranchi. The classrooms have the usual wooden desks and blackboards that always have a bit of chalk dust on the floor. It is a busy place. Between classes, the kids shuffle their feet and talk about whatever is going on in their lives. We have a small staff room where we sit and drink tea when there is a break. It is not some modern glass building; it is a practical school made of brick and concrete. We deal with regular school stuff like lost pens, forgotten homework, and preparing for the yearly exams. The weather in Ranchi is usually nice, so the kids spend a lot of time outside during lunch break. It feels like a small community once you step inside the gates. There is always something to do, whether it is fixing a desk or checking the registers.
