Vijaya Barathi School

Vikas Nagar is a quiet enough place until the school day starts. Our school, Vijaya Barathi, is tucked away on Road No-4, right near Singh More. People often call it The Castle Kindergarten and Play School because of how it looks, but to us, it’s just where we work. We’re over in the Latma Road area of Hatia, which is a bit out of the main city rush of Ranchi. Every morning, the gates open and the kids start coming in from the nearby houses. It’s mostly local families who send their children here. The building has a few play areas that stay pretty busy. We don’t have a lot of high-tech stuff, just the basics that a school needs. The rooms are decorated with drawings and things the kids have made over the weeks. It’s a bit messy at times, but that’s expected. We spend our mornings checking attendance and the afternoons making sure everyone gets home okay. The weather in Hatia can be unpredictable, so we’re always checking the clouds. Our staff is mostly people from the neighborhood who’ve been here for a long time. We know the parents and the grandparents too. It’s a very grounded place. No one puts on any acts here. We just open up, do the teaching, and close down when the day is done. It’s a simple routine that works for everyone involved in this part of town and we like it that way.
