St Mathias School

St Mathias School is located on Lodhma Kara Road over in the Dhurwa area of Ranchi. We are right in the middle of a neighborhood where most people know each other. The school isn't some massive institution with high walls; it’s more like a local fixture. We have been here through many seasons, watching the kids grow up from small children into teenagers. The Ranchi weather can be a bit unpredictable, so we spend a lot of time making sure the roof is okay and the classrooms stay dry. Our teachers are mostly local folks who take the bus or walk to get here. We don't use a lot of big words or complicated systems. We just have our classrooms, the blackboards, and the playground where the kids spend their breaks. It gets quite loud during the recess, which is to be expected. Sometimes the plumbing gives us trouble or we have to wait a week for new supplies to arrive from the main market, but we make do with what we have. Most parents come by to talk to us about their children’s progress while they are on their way to the market. It’s a very grounded way of doing things. We just try to provide a steady place for the kids in Dhurwa to come and study without any unnecessary drama or expensive frills. Every morning we open up the doors and get the day started.
