Shri Krishna Oil Industries

We run Shri Krishna Oil Industries over on Junagadh Road. It’s an area where you see a lot of agriculture-related businesses. Our work is pretty straightforward: we take seeds and press them to get the oil out. The whole place smells like groundnuts or mustard, depending on what we are processing that day. It’s a very dusty environment because of all the raw material coming in from the farms. We have these big pressing machines that run for hours. They make a deep thumping sound that you can hear from the street. My job is mostly making sure the machines don’t get jammed and that the oil is flowing into the containers properly. We don't have fancy packaging or a big marketing team. Most of the oil goes out in plain tins or drums to the local markets. It’s hard work, and the floors get quite slippery, so we have to be careful where we step. We work according to the seasons; when the harvest comes in, we are working day and night. During the off-season, we spend our time cleaning and repairing the equipment. It’s a family-run type of thing, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time. There's nothing complicated about it, just the machines and the seeds and the oil. We like the honesty of the work and the people we meet.
