Jalaram Garlic Bhandar

You can find us at Shop No 31 inside the Marketing Yard. It’s a big, busy place where everything moves fast. We specialize in garlic, as the name suggests. There are always mountains of garlic bulbs in white mesh bags piled up all over the shop. The smell is very strong, but we don't even notice it anymore. We spend a lot of our time sorting through the stock, making sure we separate the good bulbs from the ones that are starting to go soft. It’s a lot of sitting on low stools and working with our hands. The Marketing Yard is always full of trucks and carts, so it’s never quiet around here. We start work very early, often before the sun is even up, because that’s when the big buyers come through. The floor is concrete and can get a bit cold in the winter, but there’s always something to do to keep moving. We don't have any fancy office space, just a small desk in the corner for the accounts. Most of our transactions are done in cash and with a lot of talking. It’s a simple business. We get the garlic in, we sort it, and we sell it. We’ve been at this same stall for years and know all the other vendors around us. It’s a hard-working life here at Jalaram Garlic Bhandar. We just try to keep the supply moving for the local markets as best as we can.
