Haji A Salaam Ice Fectory

Our factory is located right by the Rajkot Railway Phatak on Eid Gah Road. You can hear the trains passing by all day long while we work. Being on the Main Road makes it easier for the big trucks to come and get their loads. We have been here for a good long time, and the building has seen better days, but it does what we need it to do. We make ice in large quantities, mostly for the commercial guys who need to keep their produce fresh. It’s a damp and chilly environment inside, which is a big contrast to the heat outside on the street. We spend most of our time monitoring the freezing cycles and making sure the water is clear. There isn't much time for sitting around. When the railway gate closes, the traffic piles up right in front of our entrance, so we have to time our deliveries carefully. It’s a bit of a puzzle sometimes. We have a small crew of guys who have been with us for years. We know the rhythm of the trains and the road by heart now. We don't have any fancy brochures or a website; people just know the Haji A Salaam name from word of mouth over the decades. It’s a straightforward operation. We make the ice, they buy the ice, and we keep the machines running despite the noise and the dust.
