Working out here at the Hirmi Cement Works involves a lot of dusty days and heavy machinery. We are located in the Simga Taluka area, out near Neora. It is a large operation, but when you are actually on the ground, it is just a bunch of us in boots and helmets doing our jobs. The trucks come and go all through the day and night, taking the cement out to wherever it is needed for building. The plant is right by the post office area in Hirmi. It gets very loud, and there is always some part of the equipment that needs a bit of fixing or checking. We have been a part of this landscape for a long time now. Most of the people living around here either work at the plant or know someone who does. It is not exactly a glamorous job, but it is steady work for everyone involved. We have to watch the weather closely because the rain really changes how we have to move the materials around. In the early mornings, you can see the dust settling on the leaves of the trees nearby. We take our breaks together and talk about what is happening in the local villages. The paperwork is constant, as we have to keep track of every single load that leaves the gate. Sometimes things break down and we stay late to sort it out. It is just the way the cement business goes.
