About Samarpita Women Farmers Producer Company Limited – Agriculture & Farming in Puri
Samarpita is a group of women farmers based in Subalpur, within the Pipili area. We use a space at Jagannath Saho’s house, K-182, for our meetings and organizing. We are all local women who have been working on farms since we were young. We decided to come together because it’s hard to make a living as a small farmer alone. We grow a bit of everything, from grains to local vegetables. Our days start very early, often before the sun is even up, so we can get as much done as possible before the heat gets too bad. We don't have any polished corporate image. We are usually covered in dust and focused on our plants. Satasankha is a tight community, and we are just a part of that. We help each other out with the harvest and share whatever equipment we have. It’s a very practical arrangement. We don't have a mission statement or any promotional goals. We just want to be able to sell our crops for a fair price so we can take care of our homes. The work is physically demanding and sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate, which is frustrating. But we stick together and figure it out. We aren't looking for anything fancy, just the chance to work our land and stay independent. It’s a quiet life in Subalpur, and we are fine with that. We just take it day by day and hope for rain.
