Uttara House is located at 2 Wellesley Road, and that is where we do most of our daily work. It’s an older building with a lot of character, and we’ve grown quite fond of the creaky floors over the years. We deal with foods and animal feeds, so our conversations usually revolve around grain prices, delivery schedules, and how the crops are doing. It is a very grounded kind of business. The office is usually a bit of a mess with ledgers and samples of feed sitting on the desks. We get people coming in and out all day, from farmers to transporters, and there is always someone looking for a cup of tea. Wellesley Road is a busy street, so there is always a background hum of traffic that we’ve mostly learned to ignore. We don't have a marketing department or anyone to write fancy speeches for us. We just know what needs to be done to keep the feed moving to where it needs to go. Sometimes the phones don't stop ringing and it gets a bit hectic, but we usually manage to stay on top of things. Our staff is mostly local people who have been in this industry for a long time. We value the fact that we can just talk to people plainly without any corporate talk getting in the way. It’s a steady job and we like the people we work with every day.
